A five-star classification, an award and a guest rating answer different questions. We keep them separate.
What qualifies as five-star?
For France, our catalogue uses hotels listed as “HÔTEL DE TOURISME” and “5 étoiles” in the official Atout France dataset. We retain the classification date and the source. A high guest rating alone never qualifies a property.
What “official source” means
A record has been matched to the downloaded official register. This does not imply that our team has stayed at the hotel or independently checked every facility. The source retrieval date is displayed on each hotel page.
Five stars are not a Palace distinction
Hotel classification, the French Palace distinction, MICHELIN Keys and Forbes Travel Guide awards are different systems. Awards are added only with a specific awarding authority, source and validity period.
Reviews retain their origin
Our editorial reviews and partner guest reviews are displayed separately. Each provider keeps its own rating scale, attribution and update date. Missing reviews are never replaced with invented scores.
Geography and photography
The current map groups hotels at official municipality centres. It does not place hotels at invented coordinates. Destination photos are labelled and must not be interpreted as photographs of a property. Our Riviera collection covers Var and Alpes-Maritimes; our Alpine collection covers Savoie, Haute-Savoie, Isère and Hautes-Alpes.
Publication and indexing
Imported hotel records can be browsed before they are approved for search-engine indexing. Editorial enrichment and data checks must be complete before approval. Corrections and old hotel names remain traceable.
Keeping the register current
Source refreshes must be reviewed before publication. A record disappearing from a source is a signal to investigate, not proof of closure. An explicit classification extension is retained; no expiry date is invented.
