The hotel at a glance.
Villa Mazarin is a fully restored 15th-century house within the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, the walled town whose fortifications were built by Saint Louis. Its rooms pair traditional Provençal décor with a setting the hotel describes as both historic and contemporary, while an indoor pool opening onto the summer garden, a table with cuisine imagined by Cyril Labadie and his team, and Espiguettes beach fifteen minutes away give the old walls a modern rhythm.
Why it stands out
- A restored 15th-century house inside the ramparts built by Saint Louis
- Indoor pool opening onto the summer garden, free from 07:00 to midnight
- Restaurant with cuisine imagined by Cyril Labadie and his team
- Espiguettes beach fifteen minutes away
Five Centuries Behind the Walls
The building has a long record of hospitality. In 1538 it was already receiving guests during the meeting of Charles V and François Premier. Nearly two centuries later, in 1730, the painter Etienne Théaulon lived here; his work "The head of the old woman" is at the Musée du Louvre. Today the house, which the hotel describes as splendid, has been fully restored.
Inside, traditional Provençal décor meets an environment the hotel calls both historic and contemporary. No two rooms are alike: each has its own colour scheme and, in the hotel's words, its own specific charm.
Inside a Medieval Walled Town
The hotel stands on Boulevard Gambetta within the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, fortifications built by Saint Louis. The hotel presents itself as a place of peace within the walled town, which it dates to the twelfth century. Beyond the walls, Espiguettes beach is fifteen minutes away, and Avignon, Arles, Orange, Nîmes, Uzès, Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence all lie within an hour's drive, making the house a practical base for exploring the wider region.
