Hôtel Balzac stands on the site of Honoré de Balzac's final residence, at the corner of Rue Balzac and Rue Lord Byron, steps from the top of the Champs-Élysées. Reborn in 2024 under hotelier Olivier Bertrand, it shares its address with Pierre Gagnaire, whose restaurant has held three Michelin stars since 1996 and is reached from the lobby through a secret door.

- Paris Sky Suite with a 10 m² terrace facing the Eiffel Tower
- Built on the site of Balzac's final residence, reborn in 2024
- Ikoi Spa with treatment cabins, plunge pool and sauna
- Minutes on foot from the Arc de Triomphe
Balzac's Last Address, Remade in 2024
The hotel occupies the site where Honoré de Balzac spent his final years, and it was reborn in 2024 under the guidance of hotelier Olivier Bertrand. Its interiors are the work of Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay of Festen Architecture, who worked in neutral tones and clean lines with wood, velvet and natural stone. Custom-made furniture recalls the 1930s and 1940s, reinterpreted with a modern hand.
Light is treated as part of the decoration, shifting through the day, and the lounge sits beneath a glass roof. The house belongs to the Relais & Châteaux collection, as does Pierre Gagnaire, and it has been awarded One MICHELIN Key.
Steps from the Champs-Élysées
The address, 6 Rue Balzac, lies in the 8th arrondissement, a few minutes' walk from the Arc de Triomphe and from the restaurants and luxury boutiques of the Golden Triangle. Charles de Gaulle Étoile station serves Metro lines 1, 2 and 6 and RER line A, George V station adds line 1, and a Vélib' bike-share station is close by. The hotel puts both Paris airports, Charles de Gaulle and Orly, 45 minutes away by taxi.
From Boudoirs to a Rooftop Terrace
Boudoir Rooms are dressed in fine woodwork or moiré fabric and accommodate two guests. Deluxe Rooms, also for two guests, sit on floors 1 to 5, add a sofa or two armchairs and look over Rue Balzac or Rue Lord Byron. Accessible rooms are found in this category.
Junior Suites have a sitting area with a sofa bed for up to three guests. The Eiffel Tower View Suites, on the fifth floor above Rue Lord Byron, look across Paris rooftops to the tower.
At the top, the sixth-floor Paris Sky Suite pairs a large wood-panelled living room with a 10 m² terrace facing the Eiffel Tower over the Champs-Élysées. It is one of two top-floor suites with terraces.
Three Stars Behind a Secret Door
Pierre Gagnaire has run his restaurant at this address since 1996, and it has held three Michelin stars since that year. The restaurant adjoins the hotel but is completely independent of it; guests reach it from the lobby through a secret door. Its interior is dominated by a charcoal work by Adel Abdessemed, a bestiary described as an 'urban cave painting'.
The glass-roofed lounge, also open to the public, serves breakfast from 07:00 to 11:00 and lunch from 12:00 to 14:30, and its bar service runs from 12:00 until midnight; the menu includes dishes such as Caesar salad and truffle croque. Head Bartender Julien Quettier mixes cocktails named after Balzac's works, served alongside Petrossian caviar and a lobster roll with Espelette pepper and ginger.
Japanese Rituals at the Ikoi Spa
The Ikoi Spa takes its name from the Japanese for 'a place where one feels good'. Its three treatment rooms are used for solo or duo treatments, given on tables or tatami mats, and the menu, created with Omnisens, includes a signature anti-ageing treatment, a Kobido facial, Shiatsu, Take and deep tissue massage. A fitness room, a sauna and a plunge pool complete the facilities, which are open from 07:00 to 22:00.
Staying as a Family
Families have options: a Boudoir Room connects to a Superior Room for up to four guests or to a Junior Suite for up to five, and an Eiffel Tower View Suite takes two adults and two children on a sofa bed.
