Luxury hotels in Paris: reading the map

Paris is divided into 20 arrondissements that spiral clockwise from the centre like a snail shell, beginning with the 1st around the Louvre on the Right Bank of the Seine. Postcodes run from 75001 to 75020, so the last two digits give the arrondissement. As of October 2026, most of the luxury hotels in Paris listed here have 75001, 75002 or 75008 postcodes, between Place Vendôme and the Champs-Élysées; the rest are spread across the 9th, 10th and 17th, the Marais and Bastille, Saint-Germain, and the 7th and 16th around the Eiffel Tower. Twelve of the 13 Paris hotels on the Palace list Atout France updated on 2 June 2026 are among them.

Every listed hotel holds the official five-star classification, awarded for five years. The Palace distinction, created by an order of 8 November 2010, is a separate title granted for three years to a select few five-star hotels judged exceptional for their location, history, architecture, gastronomy and service. Place Vendôme, the Tuileries and the Louvre

Jules Hardouin-Mansart designed Place Vendôme, begun in 1698, as a rectangle whose canted corners give it the look of an octagon. Its column, raised on Napoleon's orders to celebrate Austerlitz and sheathed in bronze from captured cannon, was pulled down during the Commune in 1871 and put back up in the 1870s; jewellers such as Boucheron now trade on the square. The Tuileries garden, laid out for Catherine de' Medici in 1564 and redesigned by André Le Nôtre from 1664, runs from the Louvre to Place de la Concorde, with Monet's Water Lilies in the Musée de l'Orangerie.

The Ritz Paris, at 15 Place Vendôme, was founded by César Ritz in 1898, the first hotel to carry his name, and is linked with Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway and Marcel Proust. Bar Hemingway is a club-like room without music, and chef Eugénie Béziat's Espadon has a tree-lined terrace on the Grand Jardin.

The Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, at 5 Rue de la Paix, has a 250 m² spa with four treatment cabins. The Mandarin Oriental Paris, at 251 Rue Saint-Honoré, has Mandarin Terrace rooms facing its camellia garden, junior suites overlooking the garden and private spa suites.

On Rue Cambon, beside Maison Chanel, the Castille Paris divides its rooms between a 1930s-style Rivoli wing and a contemporary Opéra wing, and keeps early 20th-century frescoes in its courtyard. Le Burgundy, on Rue Duphot, asks diners at Le Baudelaire for elegant chic dress. The Maison Barrière Vendôme, on Rue du Mont-Thabor near the Tuileries, is the smallest of this group, with 26 registered rooms, suites and apartments.

Closer to the Louvre, Madame Rêve occupies the Grande Poste de Paris building on Rue du Louvre, near the Bourse de Commerce and La Samaritaine. Its Le ROOF bar overlooks a rooftop garden, and its 130 m² Penthouse has a wraparound terrace.

Two Palaces complete the quarter. Le Meurice, at 228 Rue de Rivoli, has faced the Tuileries garden since 1835; Salvador Dalí spent a month there every year from 1959, and its pâtisserie sells Cédric Grolet's sculpted fruits. Cheval Blanc Paris, at 8 Quai du Louvre, opened in September 2021 in the Art Deco Samaritaine building, opposite the Pont-Neuf, and overlooks the Seine. Peter Marino designed the interiors; Plénitude has held three MICHELIN stars since 2022, and the hotel's restaurants hold six stars in all (as of 2026).

The Champs-Élysées and the Golden Triangle

The Champs-Élysées runs 1.9 km from Place de la Concorde to Place Charles-de-Gaulle, the former Place de l'Étoile, where twelve avenues radiate from the Arc de Triomphe. Napoleon ordered the arch in 1806 after Austerlitz; it was inaugurated in 1836 and shelters the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. South of the avenue, the Golden Triangle, or Triangle d'or, is a block of about 12 hectares framed by Avenue Montaigne, Avenue George-V and the Champs-Élysées, where fashion houses settled after Paul Poiret moved nearby in 1909.

Barrière Fouquet's Paris, at 46 Avenue George-V, combines Superior rooms designed by Jacques Garcia, a 135 m² Signature suite looking onto the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, the Fouquet's brasserie with its terraces and a 750 m² spa.

Hôtel Balzac stands on the site of Honoré de Balzac's final residence, at the corner of Rue Balzac and Rue Lord Byron. Relaunched in 2024 under hotelier Olivier Bertrand, it held One MICHELIN Key as of 2026, and a concealed door from the lobby opens into Pierre Gagnaire's restaurant next door.

Hôtel Lancaster, on Rue de Berri, keeps a private spa on its eighth and top floor, with a terrace that looks from Sacré-Cœur to the Eiffel Tower. La Clef Champs-Élysées, on Rue de Bassano, is three minutes on foot from George V station on line 1. Nearer Étoile, Hôtel Napoléon on Avenue de Friedland has an Impériale suite whose private terrace looks towards the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, and the Sofitel Arc de Triomphe sits on Rue Beaujon.

Besides Barrière Fouquet's Paris, a Palace since June 2026, five more of the Palaces listed here stand in this part of the 8th. The Four Seasons Hotel George V, at 31 Avenue George-V, opened in 1928 and is named after King George V of the United Kingdom; its three MICHELIN-starred restaurants, Le Cinq, L'Orangerie and Le George, hold six stars between them (as of 2026). The Plaza Athénée, at 25 Avenue Montaigne, opened on 20 April 1913. Its Art Deco Relais Plaza dates from 1936, and its courtyard, La Cour Jardin, serves meals in spring and summer and becomes an ice rink in winter.

La Réserve Paris, at 42 Avenue Gabriel, occupies a building of 1854 that Pierre Cardin once ran as the Résidence Hôtel Maxim's; it opened as La Réserve on 19 January 2015, with interiors by Jacques Garcia, and its restaurant Le Gabriel has held three MICHELIN stars since 2024. Le Royal Monceau, at 37 Avenue Hoche, opened on 1 August 1928 and reopened on 18 October 2010 after a two-year transformation by Philippe Starck; it keeps a collection of more than 300 works of art, and its Italian restaurant, Il Carpaccio, holds a MICHELIN star (as of 2026). At the foot of the Champs-Élysées, the Hôtel de Crillon, at 10 Place de la Concorde, occupies one of the two neoclassical palaces Ange-Jacques Gabriel built for Louis XV and opened as a hotel in 1909; Karl Lagerfeld reinterpreted its Grands Appartements suites.

Opéra, the Madeleine and further north

Charles Garnier's opera house on Place de l'Opéra was inaugurated on 5 January 1875 and is now mainly used for ballet, since most opera productions moved to the Opéra Bastille in 1989; Marc Chagall's ceiling was installed in 1964. The Madeleine, a neoclassical temple ringed with Corinthian columns and inaugurated in 1842, closes the view along Rue Royale from Place de la Concorde. Nearby, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré lines up fashion houses such as Hermès with the Élysée Palace at No. 55.

Sofitel Le Scribe Paris Opéra, at 1 Rue Scribe, is 200 metres from the Palais Garnier, with Galeries Lafayette and Printemps a few minutes' walk away. The hotel counts the Lumière brothers' first film projection in its history, and Tristan Auer designed the interiors.

The Hyatt Paris Madeleine, at 24 Boulevard Malesherbes, has some rooms with views of Montmartre or the Opéra Garnier. Hôtel Bowmann, at 99 Boulevard Haussmann, has a Terraké spa and a bistro with a terrace. Maison Delano Paris occupies an 18th-century building with a private courtyard on Rue d'Anjou, about five minutes on foot from Place Vendôme, and the Sofitel Paris Le Faubourg, on Rue Boissy-d'Anglas, is a few steps from the Faubourg Saint-Honoré boutiques. On the street itself, at No. 112, stands Le Bristol, one of the city's Palaces. It opened in April 1925 in the former Hôtel de Castellane, and it has a 1,200 m² garden, a sixth-floor pool that looks across the rooftops to Sacré-Cœur, and Épicure, which holds three MICHELIN stars (as of 2026).

Three listed hotels lie further north and east. La Fantaisie, on Rue Cadet in the Faubourg-Montmartre quarter of the 9th, near Cadet station on line 7, has garden-view and terrace rooms and a rooftop bar. La Fondation, on Rue Legendre in the 17th, a street served by métro lines 3 and 13, pairs its rooms with coworking offices, a sports club that includes climbing, and a 10th-floor rooftop.

Renaissance Paris République is in the 10th, at 40 Rue René Boulanger, near the Marais and a short distance from the Canal Saint-Martin. The building held offices and then an artists' squat before it opened as a hotel in 2018; Didier Gomez designed the interiors, and a new artist shows work on its walls every quarter.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Left Bank

The Rive Gauche, the Seine's southern bank, has long been associated with writers and artists, from Colette and Gertrude Stein to Picasso, Hemingway and James Baldwin. Saint-Germain-des-Prés, in the 6th arrondissement, grew around an abbey founded in 558 by Childebert I, son of Clovis; its church, with a bell tower from around 990, is considered the oldest in Paris.

In Saint-Germain the listed address is the Mandarin Oriental Lutetia, at 45 Boulevard Raspail beside Sèvres–Babylone station. It opened in 1910 in a blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, with vines sculpted on its façade by Léon Binet in memory of the vineyards that once covered the site. Picasso, André Gide, André Malraux and Samuel Beckett were regulars, and James Joyce wrote much of Ulysses there. In the late 1930s it was a meeting place for anti-Nazi German exiles; after the Liberation in August 1944 it received returning prisoners of war, displaced people and concentration-camp survivors.

Jean-Michel Wilmotte led its restoration, and the hotel took the Mandarin Oriental name on 4 April 2025. It has 184 registered rooms, a 700 m² spa and suites created with Isabelle Huppert and Francis Ford Coppola. Le Bon Marché, the Jardin du Luxembourg, Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots are five to ten minutes away on foot.

The Marais and Bastille

The Marais spans parts of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements on the Right Bank. Its golden age came in the 17th century, when it was the favoured address of the French nobility, and its mansions now house the Musée Picasso, in the Hôtel Salé, and the Musée Carnavalet, devoted to the history of Paris. In 1964, under the Malraux law of 1962, it became Paris's first secteur sauvegardé, or safeguarded sector. Place des Vosges, built by Henri IV from 1605 and inaugurated in 1612, is the oldest planned square in the city, and Victor Hugo's home at No. 6 is now a museum.

Expérimental Marais, at 116 Rue du Temple on the corner of Rue Chapon in the 3rd, has 43 registered rooms, a restaurant mixing New York influences with French tradition and a spa with a Roman bath. SO/ Paris, on Rue Agrippa-d'Aubigné in the 4th, sits between the Marais and Bastille, about 150 metres from Sully-Morland station; its Bonnie restaurant is on the 16th floor, with a panoramic terrace.

Place de la Bastille faces the Opéra Bastille, inaugurated on 13 July 1989, the eve of the bicentenary of the storming of the Bastille. East of the square, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine grew up as a quarter of carvers, gilders and cabinetmakers. Rue Faidherbe, in the 11th, keeps that heritage: the Paris Bastille Boutet MGallery occupies a 1926 building by Achille Champy that housed a wood supplier for local craftsmen before becoming a chocolate factory.

The Eiffel Tower, the Invalides and Trocadéro

Gustave Eiffel's company built the 330-metre tower on the Champ de Mars between 1887 and 1889 as the centrepiece of that year's World's Fair. In the same 7th arrondissement, Les Invalides, founded by Louis XIV in 1670 as a home for aged and disabled soldiers, holds Napoleon's tomb beneath Hardouin-Mansart's 107-metre dome and the Musée de l'Armée. Across the Seine, the Palais de Chaillot, built for the 1937 International Exposition, frames the view from Place du Trocadéro to the tower and houses the Musée de l'Homme.

Two listed hotels stand in the 7th, near both the tower and the Invalides. Le Cinq Codet, on Rue Louis-Codet, has an open-air spa terrace on its third floor with an outdoor bubbling bath; École Militaire and La Tour-Maubourg stations are a few minutes' walk away. Le Narcisse Blanc, on Boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg near the Pont Alexandre III, has 37 registered rooms and the Cléo restaurant.

On the Right Bank, Avenue Kléber runs about 1.1 km through the 16th from Place Charles-de-Gaulle to Place du Trocadéro. At No. 19, The Peninsula Paris, a Palace, occupies the former Hotel Majestic, which opened in 1908 and became government offices in 1936; it reopened as The Peninsula in August 2014, and its rooftop restaurant, L'Oiseau Blanc, holds two MICHELIN stars (as of 2026). La Clef Tour Eiffel, at No. 83, has 112 registered rooms, one- and two-bedroom apartments and a hammam. The Sofitel Paris Baltimore Tour Eiffel, at No. 88 bis, has some rooms with private balconies and the LPC cocktail bar.

Shangri-La Paris, the other Palace of the 16th, stands at 10 Avenue d'Iéna in the residence built between 1892 and 1895 for Prince Roland Bonaparte, listed as a historic monument since 2009. It opened as a hotel on 17 December 2010 and looks across the Seine to the Eiffel Tower.

Arriving in Paris: airports and stations

Paris has two main airports, Charles de Gaulle to the north-east and Orly to the south, and several main-line stations, each serving its own part of France and Europe. As of September 2026 the métro has 16 lines and the RER five. Métro line 14, fully automated since it opened in 1998, is useful for many of the hotels listed here: since June 2024 it has run from Orly through Gare de Lyon, Châtelet, Pyramides, Madeleine and Saint-Lazare to Saint-Denis–Pleyel. The RoissyBus from Opéra to Charles de Gaulle stopped running at the end of February 2026; its replacement, express bus 9517, links Saint-Denis–Pleyel with the airport.

Two listed towns make easy extensions from Paris. Normandy trains leave Saint-Lazare for Caen and Bayeux, and Audrieu lies in the Calvados countryside between the two. South of the capital, Augerville-la-Rivière, a château village on the Essonne in the Loiret, is about 75 km away by the A6.

When to go: the Paris calendar

A handful of recurring dates change the rhythm of the city:

• Twice a year: the Paris fashion weeks, run by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, with haute couture shown before the ready-to-wear collections.
• Late May to early June: the French Open on clay at Stade Roland-Garros, Porte d'Auteuil, in western Paris.
• 21 June: the Fête de la Musique, founded in Paris in 1982, with free concerts in streets and parks.
• 14 July: the Bastille Day military parade on the Champs-Élysées.
• July and August: Paris Plages, with beaches along the Seine and at the Bassin de la Villette, a summer fixture since 2002.
• Third weekend of September: European Heritage Days, when buildings normally closed to visitors, such as the Élysée Palace, open their doors.
• Late November to early January: the holiday illuminations on the Champs-Élysées.

European Heritage Days began in France in 1984 as an open-doors day for historic monuments before spreading across Europe.
