Le Cinq Codet occupies a 1930s building in Paris's Invalides district, in the 7th arrondissement, a few steps from the Eiffel Tower and the Musée Rodin. It has the silhouette of an ocean liner and an Art Déco design, and its interiors were reimagined by Jean-Philippe Nuel. Some 400 unique artworks are dotted around the hotel, the upper rooms look out over the rooftops of Paris, and the terrace of the Suite Eiffel takes in both the Dôme des Invalides and the Eiffel Tower.

Why it stands out

  • Ocean-liner silhouette, Art Déco design and interiors by Jean-Philippe Nuel
  • About 400 unique artworks displayed throughout the hotel
  • Suite Eiffel terrace with a double view of the Dôme and Eiffel Tower
  • Sundari Spa with open-air jacuzzi, hammam and fitness room, free to use
  • Steps from the Eiffel Tower, the Invalides and the Musée Rodin

Modernist origins and a collector's loft

The refurbishment of the building was entrusted to Jean-Philippe Nuel, whom the MICHELIN Guide calls a celebrated interior architect, and the Guide describes the result as a chic, relaxing interior that draws on the building's Modernist origins. Art is the other thread: the hotel compares its atmosphere to a collector's loft, with unique works scattered throughout. In the restaurant, a contemporary decor borrows curved lines, noble materials and soft lighting from Art Déco.

Between the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides

Le Cinq Codet stands at 5 Rue Louis Codet in the 7th arrondissement, between the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides and close to the Champ de Mars. École Militaire station on metro line 8 and La Tour-Maubourg are a few minutes' walk away; buses 28 and 86 stop at École Militaire, and lines 82 and 92 at Vauban – Hôtel des Invalides.

Vélib' self-service bike stations are close to the hotel, and electric and hybrid car sharing, such as Free2Move, and G7 Green taxis are easy to find. Gare Montparnasse is 10 minutes away, Orly and Charles-de-Gaulle airports both less than an hour, and an airport shuttle can be arranged on request at an extra charge.

High ceilings, terraces and monument views

The Chambre Classique measures 18 m² and the Chambre Supérieure 23 m², both for two, with a king-size or queen-size bed or two singles. The Supérieure has a 3.5-metre ceiling, natural light, subtle textures and furniture that the hotel describes as conceived like a work of art, and some of these rooms can take an extra 80x190 cm bed for one person at an additional charge. The Chambre Deluxe, at 29 m² and also for two, offers the same bedding choice, with the king-size and queen-size beds subject to availability. The Chambre Duplex has a 5.5-metre ceiling, which the hotel says makes for a bright, airy space, and a romantic bathtub on the upper level beside the bed.

The Suite Junior covers 40 m² for up to three, with a king-size bed or two singles plus an extra bed. The Suite Junior Terrasse, at 38 m² with the same arrangement, has a private terrace overlooking a secret patio that the hotel calls a place of peace and serenity. The Suite Duplex, 51 m² for up to three, is set over two levels: a warm, contemporary space below and, above, a view of the Dôme des Invalides under a 5.5-metre ceiling. It has a bathtub, a king-size bed and an extra single bed.

The Suite Eiffel's terrace offers a double view, with the Dôme des Invalides on one side and the Eiffel Tower on the other. The Suite Rodin's terrace looks towards the Dôme, while inside, clean lines and carefully chosen objects recall, in the hotel's words, the elegance of an artist's studio. The Suite Spa Codet, named after the French novelist Louis Codet, has a private terrace with a jacuzzi and the Invalides on the horizon. At the top of the building, the Suite Spa Dôme Eiffel covers 83 m² for up to five, with a king-size bed, a sofa bed and an extra single bed, a terrace, a jacuzzi and views of the Dôme and the Eiffel Tower.

Families have several configurations. The Suite Junior Famille Communicante covers 65 m² and the Suite Duplex Famille Communicante 69 m²; each sleeps up to five and has two bathrooms, and the duplex spreads over two light-filled levels with a view of the Dôme des Invalides. The Chambres Famille Communicantes pair two connecting rooms with two double beds and two bathrooms, and a single bed can be added for an extra charge. Every room has a Morphée meditation box and meditation books in French and English, and most also have a weighted blanket.

Chiquette and the patio bar

Restaurant Chiquette serves traditional, generous, homemade cooking with plants at the forefront: vegetables, cereals and fruits are the stars of the menu. Just beyond its large bay windows lies a verdant patio. Chiquette is open for breakfast from 07:00 to 10:30, lunch from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:00 to 22:00. A small note on the table invites diners to slow down, observe and feel, turning the meal into what the hotel calls a mindful tasting.

The Bar Patio, which the hotel calls bucolic, is set in its verdant patio. Its menu pairs bold cocktails and mocktails with tapas to eat with the fingers.

Sundari Spa and an open-air jacuzzi

The Sundari Spa has an open-air jacuzzi, a hammam and a fitness room, all free to use; only massages are charged extra. The fitness room and the jacuzzi are open every day from 07:00 to 22:00.

Treatments, given from Tuesday to Saturday between 11:30 and 19:00, include an Abhyanga, which the hotel says balances the body's energies, a Shiatsu to reawaken its energy flow and a Jet Lag treatment designed to ease the tensions of travel. There is a double massage room, and treatments must be booked with the concierge at least two hours in advance.

Wellbeing, families and the Seine

The focus on rest extends beyond the spa. A yoga mat is laid out in the room for practice in private, and a Dream Machine is available on request, using photostimulation that the hotel says eases stress, sparks creativity and calms sleep. A naturopath leads wellbeing workshops on DIY aromatherapy, plants and cooking, with tips for boosting energy and serenity.

Children receive a stuffed toy, a colouring book and 'Petits Princes' toiletries, and a tipi can be set up in the room for the youngest. Board games and creative activities are available, a baby cot, high chair and bottle warmer are provided on request, and babysitting is available at an extra charge. To see the city at a gentler pace, the hotel suggests a Seine crossing by electric boat or a trip on the Batobus.
