On Rue Cadet in Paris's 9th arrondissement, La Fantaisie pairs a lush garden with a light-filled rooftop, where a bar opens onto a tree-planted terrace above the rooftops of Paris. Martin Brudnizki, in his first hotel in the city, imagined the layout unfurling upward like a flower, from a subterranean spa with botanical mosaic murals to that seventh-floor bar. Pigalle and the Grands Boulevards are a short walk away.

Why it stands out

  • A lush garden and a tree-planted rooftop bar in one hotel
  • Martin Brudnizki's first Paris hotel, with orange and turquoise mid-century furniture in the rooms
  • Art Suite decorated by contemporary artist Szabolcs Bozó
  • Garden restaurant with weekly live performances
  • Awarded One MICHELIN Key by the Michelin Guide

Martin Brudnizki's design unfurls like a flower

La Fantaisie is the first Paris hotel by the designer Martin Brudnizki, whose aesthetic the hotel calls joyfully free. According to the MICHELIN Guide, he imagined the layout unfurling like a flower from the subterranean spa, where botanical mosaic murals surround pale green-tiled pools, up to the rooftop. The hotel describes itself as a vibrant, joyful place open to the city, gathering what it loves about Paris: art de vivre, softness and human connection. The guide has awarded it One MICHELIN Key, its mark of a very special stay.

By the MICHELIN Guide's account, the rooms and suites are more restrained than the whimsical common spaces, yet still bright and cheerful: floral wallpaper and art prints, mid-century modern furniture upholstered in vibrant orange and turquoise, and marble bathrooms with retro Parisian details. In the hotel's own description of its rooms, soft hues, plush velvets, handcrafted mosaics and natural materials mean that every detail invites guests to unwind.

On Rue Cadet, a short walk from Pigalle

The hotel stands at 24 Rue Cadet, 75009 Paris, in the 9th arrondissement: the MICHELIN Guide places it in Faubourg Montmartre, and the hotel describes the Cadet neighbourhood as creative, lively and food-focused. Pigalle, the Grands Boulevards and the Grands Magasins are a short walk away. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps are both within walking distance, as are Montmartre and the Opéra district, which makes the address practical for guests who plan to shop and sightsee on foot.

For longer journeys across the city, Cadet station on metro line 7 is a three-minute walk from the door. The hotel also has a lush interior garden, while the light-filled rooftop, planted with trees, opens onto a rare view across the rooftops of Paris.

Garden views, street balconies and terraces

The Comfort Room, at 20–22 m², is described by the hotel as meticulously decorated; it sleeps two adults in a king or twin bed and has a balcony, with a choice of a Rue Cadet or garden view. The Superior Room, at 24–26 m², comes with a Juliet balcony or restorative views over the garden, while the Superior Terrace Room, 25 m², adds a private terrace with Parisian views facing Rue Cadet. The Deluxe Room, 28 m², looks onto either the garden or the bustling street, in what the hotel calls a joyful yet restful atmosphere.

The junior suites add space. The Junior Suite, 34–36 m², has warm, playful tones, overlooks the lively Rue Cadet or the garden, and takes two adults plus two children under 12, or three adults. The Junior Suite Terrace, 38 m², pairs a spacious, colourful interior with a private terrace over the garden, which the hotel calls peaceful. The Grande Junior Suite, 42 m², which the hotel suggests for long stays, also faces the garden and has a king-size bed, a sofa bed, a walk-in closet and a bathroom with both bathtub and shower, sleeping two adults and two children.

The Art Suite, a 42 m² junior suite, was decorated by the contemporary artist Szabolcs Bozó, whose colourful creatures, free-form shapes and imaginary characters make up the decor. The hotel conceived it as a meeting point between contemporary art and Parisian hospitality, and describes it as generous and light-filled. It overlooks the garden and has a king-size bed, a walk-in closet, a bathroom with shower and bath, and a living area with a sofa bed, accommodating two adults and two children.

The Suite, 36 m², is filled with natural light and separates the living room from the sleeping area, and the Suite Terrace, 47 m², pairs a spacious living space with a private terrace and a Parisian view. The Family Room, 48 m², is designed for family or friends travelling together: a Deluxe Room and a street-view Comfort Room joined by a private hallway, sleeping four. The Apartment Terrace, 72 m², is conceived as a true living space: it combines the Suite Terrace and the Superior Terrace Room, with two terraces, for up to four adults and two children under 12, or one teenager.

A garden restaurant, a café and a rooftop bar

La Fantaisie has three places to eat and drink: the Restaurant de la Fantaisie, the Café and the rooftop Bar sur le Toit. The restaurants and the bar are open to non-residents, subject to availability, and reservations are strongly recommended. The Restaurant de la Fantaisie has a garden setting and serves generous cooking that gives traditional French dishes a creative twist, from scallop carpaccio to ribeye steaks for sharing, made with seasonal, local ingredients. It is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. By day it suits a Parisian lunch; by night, the hotel says, it turns into a buzzing hub of music and conversation, with weekly live performances.

The Café, which the hotel calls a lively take on the restaurant, opens like a window onto Rue Cadet. Guests can sit indoors or on its terrace every day from 07:30 to 23:30, from breakfast onwards, and at lunchtime and in the evening it works as a brasserie, serving colourful dishes.

On the seventh floor, Bar sur le Toit serves cocktails and light bites from 17:00 to 01:00, with a panoramic view over the rooftops of Paris. Guests who prefer to stay in can order from a room service menu of colourful dishes at any time of day, through the hotel app.

A mosaic-lined spa below ground

The spa lies below ground and opens daily from 10:00 to 19:30. Its treatments use Holidermie, a French vegan brand for which beauty is a global concept, built on personalised rituals that combine mixed, clean and antioxidant cosmetics.

The fitness studio sits within the spa and opens daily from 09:00 to 19:00. Equipment includes a NOHRD indoor bike, free weights, a bench press, yoga mats, wall bars and plate-loaded machines with a virtual trainer.

Families, pets and a helpful concierge

Beyond the Family Room, parents can request baby cots, as well as baby chairs in both the restaurant and the Café. Babysitting is arranged through the trustworthy people the hotel works with, who can also take care of pet-sitting.

The guest relations team is on hand to help organise a stay, from airport transfers to activity reservations and restaurant bookings. Luggage can be stored at the front desk before check-in and after check-out on request, which makes an early arrival or a late departure easier to manage. Umbrellas are kept at reception because, as the hotel puts it, Paris in the rain is just as charming.

Before you book

  • Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out must be completed by 12:00.
  • Pets are welcome in all rooms and common areas, except the spa.
  • The spa's wellness areas are open only to adults and to minors over 14 accompanied by an adult.
