The hotel at a glance.
Hôtel de Crillon occupies an 18th-century neoclassical palace on Paris's Place de la Concorde, the square where many of the city's defining events have played out. Louis XV commissioned the building from Ange-Jacques Gabriel; in 1788 it passed to the Comte de Crillon, whose name it still bears, and it has received paying guests since 1909. Rosewood runs the hotel for its owners, and it holds two MICHELIN Keys.
Why it stands out
- An 18th-century neoclassical palace overlooking the Place de la Concorde
- Les Grands Appartements, Karl Lagerfeld's fourth-floor suites with views over the Place de la Concorde
- Le Peintre, an attic suite with a view of the Eiffel Tower
- Sense, A Rosewood Spa, with swimming pool, hammam and Himalayan salt wall
- Concorde metro station, on Line 1, just 20 metres away
A royal commission on the Concorde
In 1755 Louis XV asked Ange-Jacques Gabriel to design the square that would hold his equestrian statue, the Place Louis XV, later renamed the Place de la Concorde. The building that now houses the hotel went up in 1758, one of two identical neoclassical palaces separated by the Rue Royale and first intended as offices of the French state; its eastern twin, the Hôtel de la Marine, housed the headquarters of the French Navy until 2015.
The western palace's first occupant was the Duc d'Aumont, First Gentleman of the King's Bedchamber, who bought the plot at number 10 and engaged the architects Louis-François Trouard and Pierre-Adrien Pâris. Pâris decorated the house with panelling, friezes and mirrors; the ceilings of its state salons date from that time and are now listed as historic monuments, and the Salon des Aigles was built in 1775.
In April 1788 the Comte de Crillon became the owner. Imprisoned and then freed after the Revolution, he left Paris from 1802 to 1811, years in which the house briefly operated as a hotel under the name Courlande. Raised to duke and peer of France, Crillon moved back, and his descendants lived there for more than a century, until 1904. In 1895 the Polignac family, who had inherited the house, had the architect Charles Lenormand restore the grand salon, the dining room and the façade, which was listed in 1896.
In 1904 the Société du Louvre bought the house from the heirs of the Duchesse de Polignac to turn it into a luxury hotel, and the architect Walter-André Destailleur oversaw a two-year refurbishment that added two neighbouring buildings on the Rue Boissy d'Anglas. The first guests arrived in March 1909. Early in 1919 foreign delegations laid the foundations of the League of Nations here, and during the Second World War the hotel was first the headquarters of the Allied forces, then requisitioned by the German military command.
The hotel passed in 1954 to the Taittinger family, owners of the champagne house, and in 1982 Jean Taittinger asked the designer Sonia Rykiel to rework the decoration; outside the listed parts, the 18th-century style vanished in these renovations. Starwood Capital Group bought the hotel from the former Taittinger group in 2005, and on 23 November 2010 Starwood announced its sale to Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family.
On 31 March 2013 the hotel closed for a restoration that lasted until July 2017, with Aline Asmar d'Amman as artistic director, the decorators Tristan Auer, Chahan Minassian and Cyril Vergniol at her side, and Karl Lagerfeld designing Les Grands Appartements. Protected features such as the 19th-century grand staircase and salons were combined with modern styles and amenities. The owners chose Rosewood as operator, and in September 2018 Atout France designated the hotel a Palace.
Arriving on the Place de la Concorde
The hotel stands at 10 Place de la Concorde, overlooking the square. Concorde metro station, on Line 1, is 20 metres away, and buses 24, 42, 52, 72, 73, 84 and 94 stop 20 to 100 metres from the hotel along the square. By car, Gare Saint-Lazare is 1.2 km away, 15 to 20 minutes, while Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon, 3.2 and 4.3 km away, take 20 to 30 minutes.
Orly airport is 18 km away, 30 to 45 minutes by car; Roissy Charles de Gaulle (26 km) and Le Bourget (16 km) both take 45 to 60 minutes. The concierge team can arrange private luxury transfers, and the hotel offers valet parking and a luxury courtesy car service whose cars, found and reworked by the decorator Tristan Auer, include a 1973 DS Pallas with a driver for drives around Paris.
From Deluxe rooms to Lagerfeld's apartments
Deluxe rooms, on the first to sixth floors, measure 32 m² and overlook one of the inner courtyards; each takes up to two guests, with a choice of king or queen-size bed, carefully chosen objets d'art and a spacious marble bathroom. Premier rooms, at 35 m², look over the city or the courtyard. Grand Premier rooms measure 42 m² and sleep two or three, with an extra bed subject to availability, and face either Rue Boissy d'Anglas, which the hotel describes as a quiet pedestrian street, or an inner courtyard.
Among the suites, the Junior Suite measures 45 m², and the Deluxe Suite, at 51 m², has marble bathrooms and a king-size bed. The Premier Suite, at 57 m², and the Grand Premier Suite, at 72 m², each sleep two or three, with one bed and a 140x200 sofa bed subject to availability. Cyril Vergniol renovated the rooms and the suites outside the Signature collection, conceiving each as an art lover's room filled with eclectic objects, photographs and paintings.
Karl Lagerfeld decorated Les Grands Appartements, two fourth-floor suites with views over the Place de la Concorde, made-to-measure furniture and a marble bathroom; beside them is Choupette, a bedroom named after his cat. Under the roof, Chahan Minassian turned former offices into the three Ateliers d'Artistes, L'Écrivain, Le Poète and Le Peintre, which can be booked together as one Parisian apartment: Le Poète measures 82 m², and Le Peintre, 58 m², looks out to the Eiffel Tower. Minassian also reworked the Bernstein and Louis XV suites, and Aline Asmar d'Amman designed the Marie-Antoinette, Duc de Crillon and Jardin suites.
Every room and suite, whether it faces the Place de la Concorde or a courtyard, has butler service. Deluxe and Grand Premier rooms also come with Wi-Fi, instant messaging via WhatsApp, Telegram or WeChat, a 48 to 50 inch television with Chromecast, a Nespresso machine and a private bar, and their bathrooms pair a rain shower with a separate large bathtub, a heated floor and a television in the mirror. Housekeeping is daily, with an evening service; laundry and dry cleaning cost extra.

Grill cuisine, afternoon tea and a late bar
Nonos & Comestibles par Paul Pairet reinvents the French grill in an urban dining room, reviving a style of restaurant once celebrated by grand hotels, and marks Pairet's first signature menu in France and Europe since the early 2000s. The menu revisits dishes such as eggs mayonnaise and the cut of the day, carved at the table, alongside a selection of cheeses and desserts. Nonos opens daily from 12:00 to 14:30 and 19:00 to 22:30, with a quicker 'Déjeuner express' on weekdays, while Comestibles, its pantry, canteen and deli counter, offers seafood, charcuterie, smoked fish and cheeses daily from noon to 20:00.
Executive Chef Alan Taudon has directed all of the hotel's restaurants since 1 June 2026, working closely with Paul Pairet on Nonos & Comestibles. His own cuisine is pared back, guided by the seasons, clarity of flavour and precise cooking.
Jardin d'Hiver, which links the public spaces and opens onto the Cour d'Honneur, serves every day from 07:00 to 22:00, from breakfast to dinner, with desserts by Pastry Chef Matthieu Carlin; afternoon tea runs from 15:00 to 18:00, Thursday to Sunday. Children up to 12 get 'Le Petit Crillon' plates and their own menu of a main course, a dessert and a drink, with games and colouring while they wait, and Carlin serves them pastries with old-fashioned hot chocolate or fruit juice. His Butterfly Pâtisserie, a bright workshop of cakes, seasonal desserts and signature chocolates, opens from 11:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and until 19:30 at weekends, with creations to take home.
Bar Les Ambassadeurs occupies the former gastronomic restaurant, which closed on 31 March 2013 and reopened as a bar in 2017; its décor and painted ceilings are listed. Overlooking the Place de la Concorde, with a terrace under the arcades, it serves creative cocktails, with live music on some evenings, from 17:00 to 01:00 daily; the current cocktail menu draws on nearly three centuries of the hotel's history, with tapas reworked by Alan Taudon. La Cave, the hotel's private dining room, hosts private events.
Sense, a Rosewood spa with a daylit pool
Sense, A Rosewood Spa offers what the hotel calls bespoke wellness, in interiors Chahan Minassian finished in nude-toned marble, Venetian plaster, stone-inlaid stucco and ceramics. Its long 'boudoir' pool, lit by a linear glass roof and decorated with a fresco by Peter Lane, takes its light from the Cour Gabriel, a courtyard arranged around a light well and water jets. The spa also has a hammam, a sauna, sensory showers and a relaxation area with a Himalayan salt wall.
Treatments pair the therapists' skills with French houses such as Maison Caulières and EviDenS de Beauté, which has had its own treatment cabin since 2024. In the fitness studio, with stitched suede pilasters and mirrors, coaches design made-to-measure programmes for beginners and experienced athletes alike. Within the spa, David Lucas runs a hair salon designed by Tristan Auer, for cuts, colour and balayage.
