Start with the country
Hotel classification systems differ across countries. Criteria, assessing organisations and validity periods are not universal. Hotel5only identifies the authority behind a property’s classification rather than treating every star symbol as equivalent.
The French starting point
In France, Atout France publishes the register of classified accommodation. Our first catalogue selects tourism hotels recorded with five stars. The register supplies identity, address, classification date and room count, allowing the underlying evidence to remain visible.
What the classification does not tell you
Classification is not a personalised recommendation. It cannot tell you whether the atmosphere suits your trip, whether a particular room is quiet, or whether the restaurant will be open during your stay. Check current details directly with the hotel.
Read the date, too
Classification and guest opinions can change. Always read the date of the source and distinguish it from the date of an editorial visit. Where evidence is incomplete, we show the limitation.
