Villa La Coste sits high on the hillside of Château La Coste, a private estate halfway between Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon, whose 200-hectare vineyard, the hotel says, is cultivated exclusively with organically certified methods and which is dedicated to wine, art, architecture and wellness. Around the hotel, the estate holds architecture by Frank Gehry, Oscar Niemeyer and Tadao Ando, a winery designed by Jean Nouvel and installations by Richard Serra and Ai Weiwei. For a stay near Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, the estate is also an art and wine destination.

Why it stands out

  • Hillside suites on Château La Coste's 200-hectare vineyard, farmed with organically certified methods
  • Architecture by Frank Gehry, Oscar Niemeyer and Tadao Ando across the estate
  • Chef Florent Pietravalle in charge of the hotel's kitchens, Louison included
  • Three MICHELIN Keys (as of 2026), with a wine tasting and an art and architecture tour included

Wine, art and architecture on one estate

Château La Coste is the wine estate and art destination; Villa La Coste is its hotel and, in its own words, in complete affinity with the estate's artistic spirit. In the MICHELIN Guide's description, the property begins with a 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by rambling stone buildings, and the guide awards Villa La Coste three MICHELIN Keys (as of 2026), its mark of an extraordinary stay.

The contemporary architecture on the estate includes work by Frank Gehry, Oscar Niemeyer and Tadao Ando, and a winery designed by Jean Nouvel. The hotel's own buildings are contemporary too: local materials emphasise the architecture, which embraces the natural setting. Inside, the spacious suites bring light oak wood, marble and natural stone together, with what the hotel calls a sincere respect for the traditions of Provence, and large windows let in the Mediterranean sunshine.

Art runs from the estate into the rooms. Installations by Richard Serra and Ai Weiwei stand on the estate, and the MICHELIN Guide notes that the suites are furnished in a residential style, with a library of art books and original works by artists featured on site, among them Tracey Emin, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Louise Bourgeois. At the hotel itself, a lobby gallery, a library and a bar sit alongside indoor and outdoor dining venues and extensive gardens with a pool area.

Between Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon

The hotel stands high on the hillside of the private domain, its suites surrounded by gardens, herbs and flowers, and the estate lies halfway between the historic city of Aix-en-Provence and the Luberon Regional Natural Park; the MICHELIN Guide also mentions views of Mont Ventoux and the Luberon. Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, the commune in which it lies, is 15 km north of Aix-en-Provence city centre, between the ridges of the Trévaresse and the river Durance.

Aix-en-Provence TGV station, with direct trains from Paris, Lyon and Nice, is roughly 30 to 35 minutes away by car, and the train from Paris takes about three hours. Marseille Provence Airport is about 45 minutes by car and Nice Côte d'Azur Airport about 90 minutes, while private jets can use the airfields of Aix-les-Milles, Marseille Provence (General Aviation terminal) or Avignon. Drivers coming from the A51 motorway reach Château La Coste in about 15 minutes, and the hotel has a secure, covered private car park. Helicopter access is also available, as Château La Coste has its own airstrip.

Suites from pavilions to two-storey residences

Every suite has its own private terrace with panoramic views over the Luberon valley and the Château La Coste vineyard, and the suites also look out over the estate's artwork; some have private pools. Decorated in a sleek contemporary style that keeps the charm of Provençal traditions, they offer a bright sitting area, a bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and bathrooms filled with natural daylight. Stays include complimentary drinks and snacks in the suite's private bar, a Château La Coste wine tasting and an art and architecture tour of the Domaine.

The Pavilion Suite covers about 90 square metres, of which about 30 are terrace, and pairs a modern style with respect for Provençal traditions. Its patio and private terrace look over the Luberon valley and the vineyard of Château La Coste, and inside there is a bathtub with a walk-in shower and an in-room private bar.

The Villa Suites are spacious, secluded and decorated in a sleek contemporary style, each with a patio and a private terrace looking over the Luberon valley and the Château La Coste vineyard. The Villa Suite covers about 111 square metres, including a terrace of about 40, with a bright sitting and dining area, a bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and a marble bathroom; twin beds are available on request. The Villa Suite with a Pool, about 130 square metres including a terrace of about 60, has the same layout and marble bathroom, with its own heated pool on the terrace.

The 2-Bedroom Villa Suite with Pool covers about 250 square metres, including a terrace of about 130 with its own heated pool, and has a sitting and dining area, two bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes and marble bathrooms. The Residence Suite, set at the centre of the premises and designed in the spirit of a private residence, covers about 149 square metres including a terrace of about 40. Its two bedrooms are spread over two floors in duplex style, with two bathrooms, 16-foot ceilings, custom-made furniture, soft-toned armchairs and sofas, and glass doors opening onto a terrace that looks over the Domaine.

Florent Pietravalle's kitchens, from gallery to garden

Villa La Coste has entrusted its kitchens to chef Florent Pietravalle, who takes charge of the hotel's entire gastronomic offering, Louison restaurant included. The hotel presents his cooking as a cuisine of the living, drawn from the philosophy of the estate, in step with the polyculture of Château La Coste and the rhythm of nature.

Restaurant La Galerie, on the second floor of the hotel, looks over the Luberon valley and serves a generous menu built on fresh, local ingredients. It is open daily from breakfast through dinner without interruption.

Les Jardins opens from May to September, for lunch only. Meals are served in the open air among aromatic herbs, the cooking is light and draws on the local terroir, with produce from the estate and seasonal ingredients, and the wine list showcases Château La Coste's own cuvées. In-room dining is also available, and the hotel has a bar.

Mud, hammams and a mineral cocoon

The spa's massages, scrubs and facial treatments use a range of natural and organic products designed especially for Villa La Coste, and the hotel describes its approach as a journey through colours, fragrances, oils, clays and salts drawn from the earth. Its Signature Rituals include scrubs and hot mud treatments, taken either in the hammams or in a mineral cocoon.

Beyond the treatment rooms, the hotel has a gym, a yoga and meditation room and a relaxation lounge. Outside, the extensive gardens include a pool area, and some suites have private pools of their own.

Art walks, balloons and quiet rooms

An art and architecture tour of the Domaine is included with every suite. Back at the hotel, a library and a games room offer indoor alternatives on slower days.

A 24-hour concierge service designs tours and activities across Provence. Suggestions include excursions to the villages of the Luberon, boat trips to the coves of Cassis, a helicopter tour or a hot-air balloon flight over the local lavender fields.
